Based on feedback from Louis Kessler (http://genealogymetrics.ning.com/profiles/blogs/metrics-for-genealogy-software), I have added Geni, One Great Family, and Genoom to the traffic rankings.

I added Geni.com to the Quantcast traffic chart as one of the top 4 genealogy sites.

After a discussion with my a long time friend Shelly Dardashti, I have added a new section named "Top 9 - All Genealogy/Family History" that includes the top 9 of all Genealogy or Family History web sites.

Her concern was that their may be comfusion by some site visitors. The web sites were broken into different sessions based on the location of the company that created the site or the site's target market.

One of the activities that I enjoyed most when I was president of FamilyLink/WorldVitalRecords was tracking the genealogy industry metrics. Each day I would track how our web sites were performing compared to the other most popular genealogy sites.

The traffic maps for the top 3 and top 8 genealogy sites documents the steep decline in traffic over the Thanksgiving holiday week. This could be expected because of the hustle and bustle of the holiday: transportation, traffic, shopping, cooking, eating, etc.

This does conflict with the additional discussion of family and family history that occurs over the Thanksgiving Day meal. These discussions trigger the desire to look up family history details.

The metrics that I am tracking for this site come from multiple, publicly available metrics. The two main tracking tools used on this site are Alexa.com and Quantcast.com.

These metrics are collected using various technices. This also means that there will be diffrences in the reporting mechanisms. The strenght and accuracy of US when compared International tracking plays a big roll in the differences.
